‘The Chase’ quiz show winner dies before episode airs, packed pub watches his posthumous win

Dozens of friends and family members of a teacher who died just weeks after appearing on the UK quiz show, ‘The Chase’ gathered to watch his triumphant win at his local pub. 

Tim McCarthy, a long-time fan of the show, finally got his chance – walking away with a staggering £100,000 (R2.3 million) jackpot with his quiz partner.

He tragically passed away a month before the episode was aired.

His victory was celebrated with cheers from friends and family at The Colliers pub in Manchester.

“Nobody knew that he was terminally ill at the time that the show was recorded… he fulfilled his ambition, all be it with a sad aftertaste.”
