JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF’s) Naledi Chirwa is the first of the party's 11 Members of Parliament (MPs) to publicly apologise for failing to attend Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe’s impeachment vote in the National Assembly.
Chirwa also committed to buying two gazebos before the end of March, as part of the sanctions ordered by the red berets.
Last week, EFF President Julius Malema suggested that the 11 failed to provide proper reasons for missing the session.
Chirwa posted an impassioned apology to her fellow party members, explaining that she missed out on proceedings in Parliament on 21 February because her four-month-old child had taken ill.
She expressed regret over failing to report this development to the designated whip in Parliament, saying she had briefed her organisation on the development.
Chirwa, in demonstrating her commitment to the party spoke of only going on maternity leave a day before giving birth and quickly returning to her duties just two months later.
Her party is one that, through its policy proposals, speaks of conducive working environments and providing incentives to companies that support mothers and fathers.
Chirwa who is currently responsible for communications for the EFF in Gauteng went even further to show her commitment to the red berets by saying she has left her daughter in the care of her mother, so she can immerse herself in organisational work ahead of the polls.
