JOHANNESBURG - Citizen empowerment group, Ground Work Collective is urging registered South Africans to sign up as election observers.
This after launching its Independent Election Observation registration portal, which will train prospective observers ahead of the seventh democratic elections in May.
The organisation said the portal will create a platform to tag, report and validate election results.
Ground Work Collective's founder and CEO, Mbali Ntuli said, “We really are encouraging all patriotic South Africans who want to be a part of protecting democracy to sign up on our portal where they will be able to get training to be observers on the day."
“It is completely non-partisan, and it really is about country duty as well as assisting the IEC to be able to make sure we have the best elections possible.”
Interested individuals can sign up on the organisation's website and have until 15 April to do so.
This comes as political parties have recently slammed a letter written by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to US secretary Antony Blinken, requesting intervention in upcoming polls.
