CAPE TOWN - The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) has welcomed a decision to close most schools in the Western Cape on Thursday.
Due to the approaching storm, all public schools in Cape Town, the Cape Winelands, the Overberg and some schools in the West Coast districts will not open on Thursday.
SADTU provincial secretary, Sibongile Kwazi, said that they supported the decision for safety reasons.
"Some of the schools are old and they may be leaking at this time. Also, we know that there's flooding in parking areas, which means that learners will arrive at school wet and they must stay at school for the whole day in wet clothing. In some cases, on their way from school, they will again encounter rain."
