JOHANNESBURG - Just a few hours away from the closure of the 2025 online admissions for Grades 1 and 8 pupils, the Gauteng Department of Education will provide an update on Sunday.
In July, the department launched the application system in hopes of reducing the strain on schools inundated by physical applications and long queues.
The application system, which in previous years kicked off slightly earlier in the year, experienced slight delays due to the 29 May elections and the formation of the Government of Provincial Unity.

The delay left thousands of parents in the province under pressure. However, the Education Department highlighted the benefits of the system, some of which include a fast-tracked application process.
The closing date for the applications is 12 August, with no exception made for late applicants.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said, "MEC Matome Chiloane will be updating on important information that parents need to know before we close the system."
