JOHANNESBURG - It’s been a day of intense protest for thousands of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters who spent the afternoon demonstrating against President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala scandal.
The streets of Johannesburg were flooded with red, as party members voiced their frustration over Parliament’s reluctance to hold Ramaphosa accountable.
The EFF’s legal team has been presenting arguments at the Constitutional Court on Tuesday, challenging Parliament’s decision to dismiss a report suggesting Ramaphosa may have breached his oath of office.
Earlier today, the EFF leadership led a march from Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown to the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein.
More than 5,000 EFF supporters packed the narrow streets of Braamfontein throughout the day, with elderly participants also marching alongside the party's leadership.
Despite the intense heat that had many sweating, the crowd remained undeterred as they made their way to the Constitutional Court.
EFF leader, Julius Malema, told the red berets that one day, they'd be honoured for standing up against what he described as President Cyril Ramaphosa's abuse of power.
"There is no way a person can violate his oath of office and still stay in that office unchallenged. We are challenging Ramaphosa. We said Phala Phala will never die, and we are the ones who are going to keep it alive."
Thousands of EFF supporters then picketed outside the Constitutional Court where their leader was set to address them following the court proceedings.
The demonstration has reached its destination at the constitutional court.
