The Blitzboks finally got the monkey off their back by winning the South African leg of the HSBC SVNS Series.
An end-to-end final unfolded in the Mother City with the French opening the scoring before the Blitzbokke struck back.
South Africa and the Olympic champions both dotted down before the break with the score deadlocked at 14-14.
The player of the tournament, Shilton van Wyk, crossed the whitewash early in the second half, while David Brits added an insurance policy with 3-and-a-half minutes left on the clock.
The Springbok Sevens then put on a stubborn defensive display to keep the French at bay.
