CAPE TOWN - The quick thinking and skill of a local angler, fishing in Mossel Bay, have saved a woman's life.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said the woman got caught in rip currents while taking a midnight dip at Dias Beach on Wednesday.

The fisherman cast his rod with a fishing line and a Kabeljou hook in the woman's direction.

He then hooked her on her jeans and reined her into safety.

The NSRI's Craig Lambinon: "A female aged 31 from George was located safely on the beach. She was treated for non-fatal drowning symptoms. She required no further assistance."
