CAPE TOWN - Metro police officers deployed in Manenberg confiscated two illegal firearms over the weekend.
The City of Cape Town said officers received a complaint from community members about gangsters walking with firearms in Vygieskraal Road.
On arrival in the street, the officers saw a man running with a firearm and immediately gave chase.
He was found in possession of a gun and 7 rounds of ammunition.
MMC JP Smith said the use of technology had helped law enforcement.
"The swift follow-up on ShotSpotter information in Manenberg over the weekend led to the confiscation of an illegal firearm and this shows our enforcement agencies successfully used technology in the prevention of crime,” said Smith.
He added that they would continue their efforts.
"Our officers will continue to arrest those who break the law and confiscate firearms which often find its way to other criminals, and which could lead to serious offences and loss of life in the community," said Smith.
