JOHANNESBURG - As the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) prepare to march to Pretoria’s whites-only community, a significant presence of police and private security are stationed to guard the area.

The red berets are set to march to Kleinfontein in the far east of Tshwane on Friday, to protest what they describe as an “Orania-like” settlement.

Kleinfontein is an Afrikaner community with strict regulations governing who may reside there.

The EFF aims to protest what it sees as the community’s segregationist character still present more than 30 years into democracy.

The skies are grey and the weather gloomy, but the red berets appear unfazed as they gather to march toward Kleinfontein.

Eyewitness News counted over 40 police vans and nyalas in and around the whites-only Kleinfontein community, deployed to ensure the protest remains peaceful.

At this point, the number of police and security personnel exceeds that of the EFF marchers.

Police officers are currently being briefed on managing the protest.

Eyewitness News has seen email correspondence between the eff and Kleinfontein community leaders revealing tension between the two parties over today’s march.
