Komphela recently returned from the US with Mamelodi Sundowns, who compete in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite being knocked out in the group stage, Sundowns put up a great fight against the likes of Ulsan, Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense.
The club finished third in Group F, just one point short of qualifying for the last 16.
The Masandawana should be proud of their performance, says Komphela.
Qualifying for the tournament proves that Sundowns’ hard work and decision-making over the years have been worthwhile.
“When we were going to the Club World Cup, we saw it as a platform to go play football at the highest level, but we quickly had to wake up and realise it is not only about football… It’s a message to be sent to the rest of the world.”
– Steve Kompela
“When you go to the Club World Cup you are looking at the process of when you started forming this thing years back, looking at how far you’ve come and putting it to the test on that stage.”
