The famous Lilian Ngoyi Street was reopened to traffic on Friday, more than two years after it was damaged by an underground gas explosion.
Johannesburg Roads Agency CEO Zweli Nyathi said the city wants to maintain the street’s visual appeal.
“This is our infrastructure, and we need to protect it. On this particular street, we won’t allow informal trading because it has demarcated areas. We will also want to promote people to abide by the law because this is a very serious investment. Going forward, this is how the city will work.” Nyathi said.
