ActionSA's mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni Xolani Khumalo said that he will establish an independent crime fighting unit within the municipality if he is elected.
Khumalo was unveiled the party’s pick for the metro at an event in his hometown of Thembisa on Saturday.
The 35-year-old rose to fame as the host of the popular drug busting television reality show, Sizok'thola.
During his acceptance speech Khumalo, spoke a lot about how crime and drugs have taken over Ekurhuleni.
He said that the key to fighting this lies in the better utilisation of the Ekurhuleni metro police department, which falls under the municipality.
Khumalo adds that his shift to politics won’t change his commitment to fighting crime..
"We still going to continue fighting crime and ensuring our communities are safe, yes, they will continue fighting crime as residents. Yes, we will continue fighting if we get into government, using the EMPD to tackle crime and all the syndicates that are around Ekurhuleni.”
Earlier this year, Khumalo was cleared of all charges for the murder of Robert Varrie, a Katlehong resident who died shortly after he was allegedly visited by the Sizok'thola crew.
