Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, the Tembisa Hospital tender tycoon, allegedly confessed to investigators that he has close links to several senior police officials.
The allegations were made by Witness C, a member of the Gauteng Counterintelligence Operations Unit (GCIOPS), while testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The revelations came during a raid at Matlala's lavish Centurion home last December. According to Witness C, Matlala attempted to “intimidate” the GCIOPS investigators by naming officials he was close to.
THE OFFICIALS NAMED INCLUDE:
Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya.
Head of National Security and Counterintelligence, Feroz Khan.
Head of Organised Crime, Richard Shibiri.
KZN Hawks Boss, Lesetja Senona.
CLAIMS OF R360-MILLION CONTRACT ASSISTANCE
While testifying before the Madlanga Commission, Witness C, who was previously attached to the PKTT, provided details of the specific assistance Matlala allegedly received from certain officials.
Witness C claims Matlala told them that General Senona and General Sibiya were instrumental in helping him secure a R360-million SAPS contract.
"General Senona and General Sibiya had assisted him in securing the SAPS tender."
Matlala also provided specifics regarding his relationship with the Head of National Security and Counterintelligence, Feroz Khan.
"He indicated that he owned a penthouse in Menlyn Maine in Pretoria, whereby General Khan would regularly use his penthouse."
The GCIOPS team initially swooped on Matlala’s luxury mansion while searching for his former business partner, Jerry Boshoga, who was and remains kidnapped.
Instead of finding Boshoga, the team encountered Matlala, who proceeded to drop the names of the prominent police officials during an interview.
