Newly crowned Miss SA Qhawekazi Mazaleni hopes to leave legacy of impact

The newly crowned Miss South Africa says she hopes to leave a legacy of impact and be a self-starter.

Twenty-four-year-old Qhawekazi Mazaleni won the title in October and said she was focused on making sure that children have access to books.

Mazaleni's accomplishments include publishing an isiXhosa book, which teaches children to read and count.

She said that she would like to see more initiatives focused on addressing the country's rising illiteracy rates.

"So for me, the Miss South Africa platform really is a self-development platform and for my reign, I really want to focus on inclusive education, so creating more books and resources in South African languages and then partnering with multilingual illustrators, authors and translators to create more resources for children to have access to meaningful education."
