More than 24,000 law enforcement officers have been deployed across KwaZulu-Natal in the run-up to the festive season.
This includes various police units, road, traffic, municipal officers, as well as private security.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli said the teams were tasked with keeping residents and holidaymakers safe over the holiday season.
Ntuli addressed the Council Against Crime in Mayville, Durban on Friday.
"These members are deployed at port entry, beaches, tourist routes, shopping centres, during major events and residential areas to ensure a 24/7 visibility, faster response time and stronger prevention measures of crime."
He said they wanted to ensure that KZN was a safe tourist destination.
"This integrated approach positions KwaZulu-Natal as a safe and attractive destination for both local and international visitors."
