Gauteng Education mourns 'major loss' after Kempton Park principal killed in Tembisa house robbery

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has described the death of a principal at an independent school in Kempton Park as a major loss for the education sector.

The principal of Samit Christian Academy was killed in Tembisa on Sunday, with police confirming his death was the result of a house robbery.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said the tragedy has robbed the sector of a respected leader.

“The loss of another Principal to violent crime is devastating and deeply concerning. The GDE reiterates its call for strengthened community safety measures and continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies, communities and social partners to protect educators and school leaders,” Mabona said.

Mabona stressed that the full might of the law must take its course.

“In light of this tragic incident, the Department is comforted by reports that the South African Police Service have arrested a suspect in connection with this crime. We commend them for their swift response and call for a thorough investigation to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.”
