ActionSA’s mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni, Xolani Khumalo, says there is a smear campaign against him for fighting drug dealers.

His comments come after the EFF in Ekurhuleni referred him to the city’s Ethics and Integrity Committee.

The EFF said Khumalo should be probed for violating the Ethics Code for councillors after he was present at a scene where Nigerian international Emeka Uzor was shot dead allegedly by private security.

ActionSA has claimed Uzor was a notorious drug dealer; however, this has not been confirmed by police.

Speaking at an event in Soweto on Saturday, Khumalo said he will continue with his crime-fighting activism.

“That is why in Ekurhuleni, we are continuing with that fight to make sure that we realise the government that we deserve. That is why we are seeing coordinated attacks and smear campaigns against us and that only tells us we are hitting the right targets. They say if you hit a dog, its owner will come out.”
