Members of the Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption on Tuesday questioned alleged fixer Brown Mogotsi’s credentials and background as a businessman and a crime intelligence asset.
Mogotsi insisted that he was indeed an intelligence asset and an informant and had several “handlers” over the years.
He was responding to questions from the Ad Hoc Committee during his first appearance before the inquiry.
Mogotsi spent most of Tuesday answering questions related to his business background and his links to crime intelligence.
He submitted that he was currently an entrepreneur and over the years had been involved in crime intelligence as an informant and worked as a crime intelligence agent.
However, committee member Julius Malema wanted specifics.
Why is Mogotsi calling himself an entrepreneur? I want to understand that because it can’t be a concept loosely thrown around. Secondly, what is an informant? Under which department does an informant fall under?”
Mogotsi told the committee that he sold alcohol and meat on a small scale and was still in intelligence.
“Perhaps I should say I was an informant, and as an agent, it was in 2009, that's when I became an agent,” said Mogotsi.
Mogotsi's evidence continues.
