While many fans may have been caught off guard by the announcement of Mohamed Salah’s departure from Liverpool, the writing was on the wall.
The 33-year-old announced this week that he will officially leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season, concluding his nine-year tenure at Antfield.
Speaking to 947’s Robert Marawa, acclaimed journalist and author of the book Only Mo Salah: An Intimate Portrait, Melissa Reddy explained that it was clear he was not 'enjoying himself'.
“I was not expecting an early goodbye from Mohamed Salah, but I am absolutely delighted that he is getting it.
“You could see from this season already, mentally, emotionally, physically, he was not enjoying himself.
He was not in the condition he wanted from himself, and the team is not geared to get the best out of his strengths.
“He has a short career left, so he has to do what is right for him.”
Reddy noted that while Salah’s impact on the football world was undeniable, the humanity of a superstar player is often overlooked.
Her book explores the man behind the jersey, with exclusive interviews and untold stories.
"He's been this megastar, yet so much is unknown about him, unknown about his journey.
“Who has done more for their people than Mohamed Salah? And I think when you read the book, it becomes so apparent that what we've witnessed is unlike anything we've seen before."
