Joburg City Power has said that a suspected vandal was apprehended after being found trapped inside a mini substation in Fleurhof, Roodepoort, on Friday while allegedly attempting to damage the infrastructure.

The utility said the man was discovered after a private security raised the alarm with teams later removing him from the site.

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said that this is the third mini substation vandalised in Fleurhof in April alone.

“This incident forms part of a sustained pattern of organised criminality which is targeting electricity infrastructure in Roodepoort which has seen a sharp increase in recent months. Since the start of the year, 16 mini substations have been vandalised in the Roodepoort area alone making it one of the hardest hit areas compared to other service delivery centres," said Mangena
