The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has confirmed that there have been no reports of major residential damage following the storms that swept through the province this weekend.
Cold, wet, and windy conditions continue to impact the region, with snowfall reported over high-lying areas as two successive cold fronts move across the Western Cape. The first front made landfall on Friday, bringing widespread rain and a sharp drop in temperatures. A second, more intense system is currently moving over the province and is expected to persist until Monday morning.
Disaster Risk Management Centre spokesperson Sonica Lategan stated that officials have recorded localised flooding on several roads. The impact has been particularly notable in Simon’s Town, where heavy downpours have led to water-logging.
Lategan noted that traffic disruptions have occurred in the following areas:
Simon's Town: Traffic has been diverted via Soldier’s Way back onto Main Road.
Glencairn Expressway: Heavy congestion has been reported, affecting access to the SA Navy Festival.
Constantia: A fallen tree is currently blocking Constantia Main Road.
"City services have been dispatched to clear the obstruction in Constantia Main Road," Lategan confirmed.
While the city has avoided large-scale structural damage thus far, officials remain on high alert as the second weather system peaks. Lategan urged the public to remain vigilant and report any property damage or life-threatening emergencies to the City’s Public Emergency Communications Centre.
