Mop-up operations are underway across several informal settlements after being flooded as a result of this weekend's heavy rain.

Disaster response teams from NGO Gift of the Givers provided relief to those affected as two cold fronts swept through the Western Cape.

Gift of the Givers spokesperson Ali Sablay said disaster relief teams have been inundated with calls for assistance from informal settlements across the Cape Metro and Drakenstein area.

Sablay said relief workers were on the ground on Sunday to assess the damage.

"Our teams are engaging with community leaders and local councillors to assess the extent of the impact and correlate an effective response."

Sablay said relief efforts are underway in Nyanga, Philippi, Lwandle and other informal settlements.
