City of Cape Town cancels contracts linked to bribery-accused Shaun Roos

A Cape Town businessman accused of attempting to bribe a senior city official was dealt another setback after the City of Cape Town terminated all municipal contracts linked to him.
Shaun Roos, owner of Triple C Maintenance and Services, was arrested earlier in March after allegedly handing over a R1.4 million bribe to City Manager Lungelo Mbandazayo during a sting operation conducted by police.
Roos' company previously held several construction-related contracts with the municipality, including road maintenance, resurfacing, and stormwater infrastructure projects.

The City of Cape Town said it had now cancelled those contracts while an investigation by its ethics and forensics department and the police continues.
City spokesperson Luthando Tyhalibongo said alternative arrangements were being made to ensure service delivery continues while replacing the affected contracts.
“The City emphasises that corruption will not be tolerated in any form and that any attempts to improperly influence municipal officials will be met with firm and decisive action,” said Tyhalibongo.
Roos made his second appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Thursday, where the case was postponed to 23 March for a bail application.
