The latest BrandMapp survey reveals that 67% of adults in the South African consumer class go to the movies, and of that 20% are movie ‘fans’ who go six or more times a year.
82% of the total consumer class are signed up for loyalty programmes, with12% of them members of the Ster-Kinekor Club and 5% using Nu Metro Scene.
"Things like the cinema still has a place in consumers lives... it still is part of life, even in a day and age where you can get unlimited streaming, it doesn't take away the allure for certain films," says De Kock.
"One of the things we always realise when we ask people what they're interested in in life – travel, music and movies are the top three... it's just a massive part of our lives as massive consumers of media. We'll do it all, we'll watch it on our laptops, TV, phones and at the cinema... it's a lekker experience when you watch the right movie in the right mood with the right people and have that dedicated moment to watch something without taking a call."
