BOKSBURG—African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says the party suffers from a "disease" of not implementing its policy resolutions.

Ramaphosa was speaking at the ANC’s 5th National General Council (NGC), currently underway at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.

The NGC acts as a midterm review of the party’s performance since its last elective conference, offering a critical assessment of the ANC’s direction and efficacy in government.

In his political overview, the ANC President reflected on the party’s wins and losses in government. Among the successes, Ramaphosa highlighted the decrease in load shedding and the growth of the economy.

However, he stressed that ANC members deployed to government still need to prioritise service delivery more effectively.

Ramaphosa was unambiguous about the party's primary internal failing, stating:

“We should also focus more attention on the implementation of our decisions. The lack of implementation of our decisions is a disease which we must rid our organisations, structures and our government of.”

The President challenged delegates attending the NGC to develop creative and practical ways to solve the pressing issues currently facing both the country and the ANC itself.
