As the geopolitical and geo-economic landscape continues to evolve, global leaders are set to weigh the risks and opportunities when the World Economic Forum gets underway on Monday.

The Swiss Alpine town of Davos will host the annual meeting, attended by the political and economic elite, which will run until the end of the week.
The forward-looking discussions include efforts to address global issues and set priorities.

The global economic outlook has shown modest improvement heading into 2026.

However, the latest outlook from economists suggests that there’s still a dose of caution in sentiment.

Head of economics research at Barclays Investment Bank, Christian Keller.

“You feel the tension in this survey between economists on the one hand, seeing these developments that shouldn't be good for the global economy. As I said, the trade tensions and the fragmentation of the global economy are. And on the other hand, you see the big promise of AI, the already happening investment boom, and the promise of future productivity growth. And I think this tension, I think that has really been a characteristic of this report.”

A South African delegation led by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will showcase the country’s economic progress, reform momentum, and investment potential.
