Gauteng police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni has confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the kidnapping of Vosloorus spaza shop owner Mazwi Kubheka.

Kubheka had been missing for a month when his captors released him on Saturday.

Mthombeni, together with Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi, briefed journalists on the progress of the investigation.

During the briefing, Mthombeni said investigators followed several leads based on statements from persons of interest.

He further confirmed that three people were questioned; however, they were not detained.

The commissioner says while Kubheka is not certain who all the kidnappers are, one suspect is known to him.

‘There is no suspect that has been arrested. When I was accounting to the process flow in terms of the dates, I clearly indicated that the matter was reported at the police station; we did not have a sworn statement of who the suspects are.
