ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba said that authorities have confirmed undocumented foreign nationals were behind the capture of a spaza shop owner from Vosloorus, in Ekurhuleni.

Spaza shop owner Mazwi Kubheka (27) had been missing for a month when he was found alive on Saturday.

Gauteng police said he presented himself to the Vosloorus Police Station in the afternoon.

The family of Kubheka was at a hospital in Ekurhuleni until late Sunday night, in the company of some political leaders and community members.

The mood was a combination of joy and sadness, with family members expressing relief that he was found alive, while others were emotional, saying he was found in a dire state.

His sister, Nomhle Kubheka, said they were monitoring him closely.

She said her brother was in a dire state.

"He is bad, he is shaking like a leaf, he is jumpy, he cries, he screams, and he is angry."

“We don’t know the extent of the torture that he suffered, and we don’t know what they did to him. They probably gave him drugs because he is not himself.”

Another sibling, Delisile Mofokeng, said the support of the community has been uplifting.

“I will never forget that phone call that I received from my sister, our lives changed. My brother is alive. He is currently at the hospital.”

Mashaba said authorities have revealed a possible motive.

"What I can confirm is that we’ve got illegal undocumented foreign nationals behind this mess that we’ve gone through these past couple of days," Mashaba said.

However, police said the motive behind the incident is still under investigation.
