Presidency unclear about the duration of Kieswetter's tenure extension at SARS

CAPE TOWN - The Presidency says it’s unclear how long the extension of South African Revenue Service Commissioner Edward Kieswetter’s tenure will last.
The taxman’s five-year contract will expire at the end of April however, The Presidency announced on Tuesday that it will be extended to allow for what it’s termed “an orderly transition”.
Kieswetter was appointed as head of the revenue service in May 2019 as part of efforts to clean up tax administration and root out the rot.
Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says with preparations for the seventh administration currently under way - now will not be a good time for Kieswetter to leave.
“The president and the commissioner in this regard agreed that it was not going to be prudent at all to have a parallel transition process taking place.”
Magwenya added that details of Kieswetter’s extension were yet to be finalised.
“It’s not out of the ordinary for the president and the commissioner to be concerned about ensuring that all of that work that has been done in the past five years is maintained and that there’s a level of continuity.”
The Presidency announced on Wednesday that Presidency Cyril Ramaphosa would reveal the date for the next general elections by 22 February.
