JOHANNESBURG - The Water and Sanitation Department says about 10% progress has been made in the improvement of the Rooiwaal Wastewater Treatment Plant in Tshwane since the appointment of a new contractor.
Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu along with Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink conducted an oversight visit at the plant earlier on Wednesday.
A new contractor was appointed earlier this year after the previous worker abandoned the project due to a fallout with the municipality.
The department said while the project is still in its early stages, there is some progress.
Deputy director-general Risimati Mathye: "The contractor is on site, they did confirm today that the second contractor for the electrical work has also been appointed and will be started in the next few weeks. These contractors will work parallel to ensure that this plant functions at full capacity."
