Ex-media officer Namhla Mphelo accuses SAFA of unfair dismissal: ‘Women are not valued’

Mphelo recently filed an unfair dismissal case against SAFA with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).

She was suspended in February after 11 years of service following accusations of dishonesty and leaking sensitive information about a R10 million payment to the association’s president, Danny Jordaan.

“I think it is sensitive information that didn’t sit right with the President that was shared on a WhatsApp group, but it did not come from me.”

“The truth is, I accessed the system; it was within my rights… The unauthorised part is not true, the sharing with an NEC member is not true.”

Following a hearing with a disciplinary committee, she was fired in April.

She claimed the hearing was not fair 'at all'.

“It’s not the first time I have been victimised by SAFA. This has been going on since the regime of Dennis Mumble. It was just another year of victimisation… Women at SAFA are not valued.”

Mphelo’s case is set to be heard on 20 May.
