CAPE TOWN - Organisers of the Cycle for Change spinathon are calling on Capetonians to join them at the Waterfront to raise funds for two cycling academies.

The money raised will be donated to the Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy in Khayelitsha and Songezo Cycling Academy in Masiphumelele.

The event comes after cyclists had become the target of crimes and motorist accidents earlier in 2025.

The managing director of Johnson HealthTech South Africa, Zeyd Sulaiman, said cyclists and motorists need to be tolerant of shared spaces when out on the road.

“Don't do foolish things like going out on your own, especially in areas that you know are renowned for crime. Be tolerant, be patient with each other, stop at stop streets, pay attention to what pedestrians are doing, anticipate what you think the car in front of you might do, and then just adjust your cycling accordingly.”
