Cyclists in Cape Town are calling for their recognition as legitimate road users.
The call comes as cyclists are mourning the death of Idries Sheriff, who was killed in a crash on Monday.
Sheriff was struck by a drunk driver while cycling along Victoria Drive, near Maidens Cove, Camps Bay.
They’re calling for stricter action against drunk driving, following the release of the accused on bail until April 2026.
Idries Sheriff set out on what would be his final ride on Monday morning before he was killed by a drunk driver.
Tributes continue to pour in from the cycling community who are calling for stricter law enforcement and lengthier convictions.
A petition is being circulated, demanding extended penalties for extreme cases of reckless driving and regular blood alcohol level tests on weekends and public holidays.
