Western Cape police report that ongoing Safer Festive Season operations are yielding positive results in the fight against crime across the province.

Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk stated that members attached to the Public Order Police were patrolling the Muizenberg precinct on Tuesday when they heard gunshots emanating from the Overcome Heights informal settlement.

"The members drove in the direction from where the shots were fired and saw four males carrying firearms running away from the scene. At a premises in Dawn Road, Seawinds members traced two of the suspects inside the house and found them to be in possession of a 9mm Taurus pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition and 70 mandrax tablets, "Van Wyk said.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, detectives in Elsies River were attending to a shooting complaint in the Leonsdale area.

"On their way to the address, they saw a suspicious-looking male running in Debden Avenue and followed him to a nearby house," Van Wyk explained. "The members took the suspect down the passage, where a 9mm pistol with 13 rounds was recovered."

The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to appear in court once they have been formally charged.
