The city of Cape Town says it's all systems go for the official Tweede Nuwe Jaar festival.
The parade is set to be held in Green Point on Monday, January 5th, with minstrel troupes marching down Chiappini and Somerset roads before heading to the stadium for a competition.
City spokesperson Luthando Tyhalibongo says they are ready to host all visitors.
"This event organized by the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association will see around 20 000 performers march from Chiappini Street, entertaining crowds along the 1.2 km stretch of Somerset Road before heading into the stadium." He said,
Tyhalibongo says both the route and date were decided by the organizers.
"The city is proud to support this historic annual event, which spectacularly showcases Cape Town’s unique and vibrant culture. The funding allocated to minstrel events represents the city’s single largest investment in events overall." Tyhalibongo added.
Meanwhile, the city has filed another court appeal against the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival Association related to an event application for the use of Vygieskraal Stadium.
