The widows of a slain top cop and alleged gangster who died while in police custody have come face to face in the Athlone Magistrates Court.
On Thursday, 11 members of the Western Cape anti-gang unit made a brief appearance in the court in connection with the alleged murder of Manenberg resident Wade Price.
Price was arrested on 4 December and died a day later after allegedly being suffocated during interrogation.
Price's wife and the wife of slain anti-gang unit commander Charl Kinnear were in court on Thursday.
Nicolette Kinnear, the wife of the slain anti-gang unit commander, said she joined the so-called "AGU 11" supporters to protest the court's decision to deny 10 of the accused bail.
"This court has granted murderers, gangsters found in possession with ammunition and given them bail."
Meanwhile Sandra Price, the wife of Wade Price, hopes the accused officers remain behind bars.
"They have to suffer there inside. They must think about what they've done. The wives or the husbands or the children, they must feel it."
A bail appeal hearing for the accused is set to proceed on Friday, while the criminal matter will be back in court on 5 March.
