Eight learners from Milnerton High School have appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on charges of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The eight accused face eight charges each for various cases of alleged assault at Milnerton High School.
The Grade 11 learners handed themselves in at the Milnerton Police Station on Thursday morning.
The eight accused learners appeared briefly in court for a bail hearing before the matter was adjourned for a lunch break.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said two of the accused are minors and appeared in a separate courtroom.
Ntabazalila said the State will not oppose bail, but the magistrate has raised some concerns.
"The magistrate was concerned that the six learners she was dealing with may have to go back to the same school where the eight complainants are," said Ntabazalila.
He further said the court would deal with the matter after the adjournment.
